Because there would be really no logical reason for a complex coloration like that to evolve otherwise. Of course we know animals with iridescence fill many different kinds of niches (crows are certainly different from starlings) but they are all diurnal. (No birds with iridescent plumage are known to have been nocturnal, because iridescence only works in daylight for social signalling.)
